Geothermal

Your Local Source for Geothermal Heating and Cooling

AAA Heating & Air Conditioning Inc will show you if geothermal is suitable for your property. Outdoor temperatures fluctuate when seasons change, but underground temperatures don't experience this change as drastically due to the earth's insulating properties. You may qualify for Geothermal Tax Credits.

What Is Geothermal?

When we dig four to six feet below the ground, temperatures will remain relatively constant year-round. A geothermal system consists of an indoor handling unit and a buried system of pipes called an earth loop or pump to reinjection well.

The pipes on the earth loop are usually made of polyethylene and, depending on the job site, either buried horizontally or vertically. The AAA Heating & Air Conditioning Inc engineers may prefer to design an "open-loop" system if an aquifer is available, meaning that we drill a well into the underground water. Then water is pumped up, ran past a heat exchanger, and then the water returns to the same aquifer through "reinjection."

During the winter, fluid circulating through the system's earth loop or well absorbs stored heat from the ground and carries it indoors. The indoor unit compresses the heat to a higher temperature and distributes back through the building. In the summer, the geothermal HVAC system pulls heat from the building and carries it through the earth loop/pump reinjection well, where it deposits the heat into the cooler earth/aquifer.

Main Components of a Geothermal Cooling and Heating System

  • The Heat Pump
  • The Liquid Heat-Exchange Medium (Open or Closed Loop)
  • The Air-Delivery System and/or Radiant heating

What Makes Geothermal HVAC Different?

Ordinary HVAC systems burn fossil fuels (gas and oil) to generate heat. Geothermal systems do not because they transfer heat to and from the earth. The only type of electric power used to operate the system is the fan.

Geothermal Maintenance

Geothermal systems need little maintenance and the buried loop can last for generations. A geothermal system’s fan, pump and compressor is stored internally, protecting them for extreme weather. At AAA Heating & Air Conditioning Inc, we do suggest periodic checks, changing the filter, and coil cleaning.
